Situated in the southern China, Shenzhen has transformed into a city of contemporary buildings.  Being highly industrialized, tourist hotspots are still plentiful, including Safari park, beach resorts and Chinese folk Culture Village.  Among the most popular attractions is probably the Window of the World, which has housed replicates of Taj Mahal, pyramids and the Eiffel Tower.

Shenzhen, China

Visits China’s fastest growing newest metropolises – Shenzhen, China. The city is very well known as the city of sunshine and modernity and a beautiful garden city in South China. I’m sure that by the time you set foot in this beautiful city, you will see how it kept pace with its economic and social development. What’s more is that the people living in this city are in harmony with nature.

Shenzhen has fast becoming internationalized as China’s first special extraordinary economic zone. Unlike other large cities, Shenzhen is a strange place because its history is largely not present tangibly or in a genuine way – yet it is represented by an imitation of world-famous sights such as the Taj Mahal, Eifel Tower and the Great Wall.

Despite the absence of these sites, Shenzhen has deep cultural roots dating back over 5,000 years ago but was only founded 27 years ago. In fact, archaeological research has proof that aborigines started occupying Shenzhen as early as 6,700 years ago. As a settlement, Shenzhen’s history can be traced to 1,673 years ago.

Shenzhen was but a humble fishing village until 1979 when Deng Xiaoping decreed the city as China’s first special Economic Zone. Shenzhen emerged in 1410 during the Ming Dynasty. Local people called the drains in the paddy fields “chong” or “zhen”. Shenzhen means “deep drains” because it is interlaced with streams and rivers. There were also deep drains in the paddy fields. Also known as the “Roc City”, Shenzhen became a township in the beginning of the Qing Dynasty.

Shenzhen was a base for the Baiyue Tribe who were sea-farers in 214 B.C. It became an important maritime trade hub in South China during the Song Dynasty in 331-1573. Military bases were set up at Dongguan and Dapeng. Xin’an County resumed the name of Bao’an County in 1913 with the county seat in Nantou. It was only in March 1979 when he Central Government and the Guangdong Provincial Government have decided to change Bao’an County to Shenzhen City. Shenzhen then gained the status of the vice-provincial city in March 1981. It was listed as an independent entity. It was given the rights o a provincial-level economic administration. It was in February 1992, through the Shenzhen Municipal People’s Congress, that the Standing Committee and the Shenzhen Municipal Government were finally given the right to draft laws locally and set local regulations. Shenzhen then became completely urbanized as a city without countryside by 2004.

You’ll see that despite it as one of the youngest cities, Shenzhen has gone through remarkable improvement in becoming a modern city giving it as premier ranking in China. You’ll see how they’ve become so industrialized and modernized, worth knowing around the world. Visit Shenzhen and see for yourself how they’ve developed.
