Situated in the Kanto Region, Ibaraki Prefecture resides by the northeast of Tokyo adjacent to the Pacific Coast.  Its prefectural capital is Mito, also called Kairakuen Garden.  Historically, Ibaraki is the home of Mito branch of Tokugawa clan in Edo period.

The site is readily accessible by Tsukuba Express from Tokyo.  There are 2 popular tourist spots, the spectacular Fukuroda Falls and Kairaku-en, one of the top 3 gardens in Japan.  Other notable places include Hitachi Seaside Park, Kashima Jingu Shrine and coastline beaches.
